1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Sia Makerlab ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with your use of the White Noise & Sleep Sounds mobile application (the "App").

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

The App is designed to function without requiring you to create an account or provide personal information. We do not collect:

• Names or email addresses
• Phone numbers
• Physical addresses
• Payment information (processed entirely by Google Play)

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

2.2.1 Local Device Storage

The App stores the following data locally on your device only:

This data is stored exclusively on your device using Android DataStore and Room. We do not have access to this data, and it is never transmitted to our servers.

2.2.2 Advertising Data (Third-Party)

The App displays advertisements through Google AdMob via the Google Mobile Ads SDK. Our advertising partner may collect:

• Advertising ID (Android Advertising ID; the App declares the com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID permission required by the Mobile Ads SDK on Android 13+)
• Device information (device type, operating system version)
• IP address
• General location data (country / region level)
• Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)

The App displays the following types of ads:

• Anchored Adaptive Banner Ads: Displayed at the bottom of selected screens
• App Open Ads: Shown when the App returns to the foreground

The App does not display interstitial ads.

Both placements are hidden permanently as soon as the user purchases the "Remove Ads" in-app product. This data collection is governed by Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

2.2.3 In-App Purchase Data (Third-Party)

If you make an in-app purchase to remove advertisements (remove_ads, one-time non-consumable, Google Play Billing 8), the transaction is processed entirely by Google Play. We receive only:

• Confirmation of purchase status from Google Play Billing's local query
• A transaction token used for local acknowledgement

We do not receive or store any payment card information, billing addresses, or other financial data.

2.3 Permissions

The App's manifest declares the following permissions:

FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK

Required to keep sounds playing when the App is minimized or the screen is off, using Android's media-playback foreground service type (mandatory on Android 14+).

POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+)

Required to show the persistent media-playback notification while audio is playing. Requested via the standard runtime prompt the first time you start playback.

WAKE_LOCK

Used by the audio service to keep the CPU available while audio is rendered, so playback does not stutter or pause on locked devices.

com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID

Required by the Google Mobile Ads SDK on Android 13+ for advertising ID access. Subject to your device-level "Ads" choice.

com.android.vending.BILLING

Required for in-app purchase processing (Remove Ads). Contributed by the Google Play Billing library.

The App does not request CAMERA, RECORD_AUDIO, location, contacts, storage, or RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED. The App does not auto-resume playback after a device reboot.

2.4 Information We Do NOT Collect

We explicitly do not collect:

• Personal information
• Location data (only IP-derived country/region is processed by Google for ad delivery)
• Camera or microphone data
• Contacts or files
• Browsing history
• Communication contents

3. How We Use Information

3.1 Local Data Usage

All locally stored data is used solely to:

• Play, mix, and persist your sound preferences, intensity, presets, and timer settings
• Render the foreground media-playback notification and the home-screen Glance widget
• Show in-app playback statistics (7-day / 30-day views)
• Remember whether you have purchased the Remove Ads in-app product

3.2 Third-Party Data Usage

Data collected by third-party services (Google AdMob via the Mobile Ads SDK, Google Play Billing) is used to:

• Display personalized or non-personalized advertisements (subject to your Android system "Ads" settings)
• Process the optional Remove Ads in-app purchase
• Prevent fraud and abuse

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

4.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.

4.2 Third-Party Service Providers

The App integrates the following third-party services that may collect data according to their own privacy policies:

The current build does not bundle the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent SDK. Ad-personalization choices are managed through Android system settings (see §6.4). A future release may add an in-app consent form; if so, this policy will be updated to reflect it.

4.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities. As we do not collect or store data on our servers, we have nothing to disclose other than what is described in this policy.

5. Data Retention

5.1 Local Data

Data stored locally on your device remains until you:

• Clear it within the App (delete presets, clear statistics)
• Clear the App's data through device settings
• Uninstall the App

5.2 Third-Party Data

Data collected by third-party services is retained according to their respective privacy policies.

6. Your Rights and Choices

6.1 For All Users

You have the right to:

• Access: View your locally stored data within the App
• Delete: Remove all local data by clearing app data or uninstalling the App
• Opt-out of Personalized Ads: Manage ad personalization through your device's advertising settings (see §6.4)
• Purchase Ad-Free Version: Remove all advertising by purchasing the "Remove Ads" option

6.2 For Users in the EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland

Under GDPR and applicable laws, you have additional rights including the right to access, rectification, erasure, restrict processing, data portability, object, and withdraw consent. Because the current build does not bundle an in-app UMP consent form, EEA / UK / Switzerland users should manage ad personalization at the operating-system level (see §6.4). To exercise rights regarding data held by Google, please contact Google directly.

6.3 For California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the right to know, access, delete, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA.

6.4 Managing Ad Personalization

You can control or reset your Android Advertising ID at any time via:

• Android Settings → Google → Ads (reset advertising ID, opt out of ad personalization, delete advertising ID)

You can permanently remove advertising from the App at any time by purchasing the in-app "Remove Ads" product.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect locally stored data:

• All app data (settings, presets, statistics) is stored only on your device, in the App's private storage
• No data transmission to servers operated by Sia Makerlab
• No cloud synchronization
• No user accounts or authentication data stored
• The Remove Ads entitlement's source of truth is Google Play Billing's local purchase query; the DataStore flag is a UX cache only

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the App is not tagged for child-directed ad treatment.

9. International Data Transfers

Data collected by third-party services may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for more information.

10. Third-Party Links and Services

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and displaying a notice within the App for material changes.

12. Disclaimer of Liability

12.1 Third-Party Services

We are not responsible for the data collection, use, or security practices of third-party services integrated into the App, including Google AdMob and Google Play Billing.

12.2 Data Loss

We are not responsible for any loss of data stored locally on your device.

12.3 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP.

13. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy shall be governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. For EU users, it shall be interpreted in accordance with applicable EU law including the GDPR.
