About
LingoPlayer is an Android video player that translates subtitles for you. While you watch a local video, it translates external subtitle files (SRT, ASS, VTT) or in-video text subtitles line by line using an AI provider you connect — a local AI model, OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini — and caches the results so playback in your chosen language stays smooth. You bring your own API key; there is no account and LingoPlayer runs without any server of ours.
Features
- Local video playback powered by Media3 (ExoPlayer), with a home screen that resumes each video where you left off
- Player gestures for brightness, volume, and double-tap seek, plus playback speed, aspect ratio, A-B repeat, and screen lock
- Picture-in-Picture and background playback with media controls, including automatic PiP when you leave the app
- Subtitle support for SRT, VTT, and ASS, including side-loaded external files and extraction of a video's embedded text subtitle track
- Bring your own AI: local AI, OpenAI-compatible, Anthropic (Claude), or Google Gemini
- Line-by-line translation with caching and resumable progress; show the original, the translation, or both at once
- Export the finished translation as an .srt file
- Cast a local video to Chromecast with the translated subtitles attached
- API keys stored encrypted on your device using the Android Keystore
- Playback uses your device's built-in media decoders only
- Free with ads; a one-time in-app purchase removes all ads
